Kathmandu University Undergraduate Management Admission Test (KUUMAT) is an entrance test administered by the School of Management of Kathmandu University (KU), mandatory for students applying to the following undergraduate programs affiliated with KU:

1. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
2. Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS)
3. Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM)
4. Bachelor of Business Administration Honors (BBA Hons)
5. Bachelor of Business Administration Emphasis (BBA Emphasis)
6. Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAM)
7. Bachelor of Professional Hospitality (BPH)

The test is designed to assess the applicant's ability in verbal and quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, and proficiency in the English Language.

Eligibility

At least one of the following must be satisfied to become an eligible candidate:

Applicants who have completed the qualifying educational level but are awaiting their results may apply on a provisional basis.

(Note: Applicants must have cleared all their previous papers and should have secured a minimum of 50 % or a CGPA of 2.0)

KUUMAT Exam Structure

KUUMAT is a strictly merit-based examination that consists of a total of 100 objective questions, each carrying 1 mark. The test is divided into two major domains:

1. General SAT

• Verbal Assessment: The verbal assessment tests students’ ability to understand and critically analyze written content. 

The questions are mostly based on vocabulary and analogical reasoning.

Some of the topics include,

• Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, word meaning)
• Prepositions, Articles and Determiners, Reported Speech, Voice
• Word Relationship 
• Reading Comprehension

• Writing and Language Test: This section examines students’ ability to recognize grammatical issues and their ability to effectively use the English language.

This includes questions like,

• Error Detection
• Sentence completion and fill-in-the-blanks
• Sentence improvement

2.   SAT Mathematics Test

• Quantitative Ability Test (without calculator): This section assesses basic mathematical skills and other simple mathematical problems that do not require a calculator.

• Quantitative Ability Test (with calculator): This section evaluates more complex mathematical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving abilities, where students are allowed to use help from a calculator.

It is evaluated with the help of similar areas with more complex problems. Questions involve,

·   Quadratic Formula and polynomial manipulation

·   Statistics (standard deviation and regression)

·   Geometry (area, volumes, trigonometry)

·   Data interpretations and ratio/percentage problems

Marks Distribution

Duration: 1 hour 55 minutes

The candidates are required to score at least 50 marks to qualify for the exam.

(Note: Each incorrect answer deducts 0.25 marks.)

Applications and Registration

To apply, students can either download the KUUMAT form directly from the official website of Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM):

Or take it in person at the KUSOM reception desk, located in Balkumari, Lalitpur.

Payment

For BBA/BBIS, KUUMAT requires a fee of a total of NPR 1,500 via Nepal Investment Bank Ltd (Account No. 2222440016421907, Banepa branch)

For standard KUUMAT (covering other programs), the official total fee is NPR 800

Students are required to submit the following documents, along with the original payment voucher from the bank:

• Passport-size photos (usually 2-3 copies)
• Grade 10 marksheet (SLC/SEE)
• Grade 11 marksheet
• Grade 12 marksheet
• Bank payment voucher
• Character Certificate
• Migration Certificate
• HSEB character certificate or equivalent
• Citizenship Card

(Note: If your grade 12 results aren’t out yet, you need to submit your admit card along with other available documents mentioned above.)

• For KUUMAT 2025, you cannot submit your application online. You must complete the application in person by submitting the form with documents attached at the KUSOM reception desk in Balkumari, Lalitpur.
• Upon submitting, you will be given sample test questions for your preparation.
• The KUSOM reception is open Sunday to Saturday, 10 AM-4:30 PM.

Admit card details and Examination Centers

Admit cards can be collected from the same reception desk once your form is registered.

Guide to Prepare for KUUMAT Examination

Preparing for KUUMAT needs a structured approach that focuses on the domains mentioned above that speak for your Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, Logical Thinking, and General Awareness.

1.  Study from materials available online:

Utilize online resources and platforms offering sample questions and practice tests to increase your understanding.

2.  Practice: 

Daily practice mock tests and previous years’ questions to familiarize and recognize examination questions and patterns.

3.  Strengthening mathematical skills: 

Strengthening your knowledge of mathematical concepts and practicing a variety of mathematical problems helps you enhance your performance in the Quantitative Ability section.

4.  Expanding your vocabulary: 

Read books and newspapers, which will help improve your English language and Verbal skills, along with your general awareness about ongoing and current international and national affairs.

5.  Time management:

Allocate time for solving each section. Try spending less time on questions that you find difficult. Move from easier questions to harder questions to save more time.

6.  Stay updated:

Keep visiting the KUSOM website to stay updated about the latest information and notices.

7.  Make a structured plan:

Use study techniques like Heuristics, acronyms, and mnemonics to learn quicker.

8.  Materials and Preparation classes:

If you don’t think self-reading is enough, do not hesitate to consider KUUMAT preparation handbooks and classes to perform better or to boost your confidence.

9.  Know your weaknesses:

If you’re weak in any of the sections that are structured in the KUUMAT examination, it is better to address them sooner to save more time for improvement.

10.  Understanding and re-checking:

Before jumping to solving any of the questions, go through them, making sure you understand. This ensures fewer mistakes.
