Engineering Entrance Preparation Guide

In Nepal, each separate university conducts a separate entrance exam for engineering.

The most popular engineering entrance exams among those are the exams conducted by Kathmandu University (KU) and Tribhuvan University (TU).

The entrance exam conducted by the School of Engineering (SoE) of KU is called the Kathmandu University Common Admission Test (KUCAT).

KUCAT for students aiming for engineering programs evaluates students’ ability in three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

KUCAT-PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) is compulsory for the following courses offered by KU:

  1. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Communication)
  2. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Power and Control)
  3. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering (Automobile)
  4. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering (Design and Manufacturing)
  5. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering (Hydropower)
  6. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil Engineering (Specialization in Hydropower)
  7. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Chemical Engineering
  8. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Engineering
  9. Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Geomatics Engineering

(And other subjects that do not necessarily come under the field of Engineering.)

Learn How to Choose the Right Information Technology Career Path for You?

A few tips for Engineering Entrance Exam Preparation

Whether you’re planning to join KU, TU, or any other university to expand your academic journey in Engineering, the goal is to secure a good rank.

Here are some tips for students that can help them perform better:

1. Know your syllabus:

Since entrance exams in Nepal give their main focus to the syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, and Math taught during the (+2), 90% of the questions in the Engineering entrance exam will be from topics that you’ve already studied.

2. Strengthen your knowledge:

You can dive into the depths of topics to refine your information.

For example, when studying formulas, try practicing derivation-based questions to understand the concepts better.

3. Practice past questions:

Do not just practice your 10+2 syllabus, but also practice previous entrance exam papers to familiarize yourself with the structure of the examination.

Give more focus on the frequently repeated questions since they have a high chance of being repeated.

4. Work on accuracy and time management:

Stimulate a real exam setting by sitting for 2 hours with no distractions, and also practice marking yourself.

Do not waste your time on difficult questions; rather, solve easier questions to save more time for questions that take much time to solve.

5. Re-read:

Read the questions properly to solve the questions accurately.

Also, re-check all your answers before submitting the paper to avoid mistakes

Re-read the question multiple times if you do not understand.

Engineering can be both challenging and fun for students who want to continue their higher studies in the related field.

Finding the right college and institution can make it so much more fun and compelling.

However, Engineering is not the only option for students who want a strong career path and love learning practical skills.
