BCA Entrance Preparation Guide

The entrance examinations for the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) program in Nepal are conducted primarily through major Universities such as Tribhuvan University (TU), Pokhara University, and Purbanchal University.

Students aiming to study the BCA program offered by Tribhuvan University (TU) are required to sit for the BCA entrance exam conducted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS) of TU.

Higher Second Level (10+2)

Minimum CGPA of 1.8 and grade D+ in each subject in Grade 11 and Grade 12

Equivalent

Minimum second division

If a candidate has completed Grade 11 and is waiting for their Grade 12 results, they may apply provisionally.

Examination structure

The BCA entrance examination consists of 100 objective questions that have a total weightage of 100 marks.

Syllabus Overview

1.       English: Questions from topics including prepositions, tense, article, voice, reported speech, abstract nouns, synonyms, etc., and reading comprehension.

2.       Mathematics: Questions from topics including algebra, geometry, probability, coding, percentage, etc.

3.       General Knowledge: Questions evaluating national and international facts.

Duration: 2 hours

The candidates are required to score at least 40 marks to qualify for the examination.

(Note: there is no negative marking)

Application and Registration

To apply, students can either get the application form directly from the designated college’s admission desk or download it from the official website of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS) of TU:

Students are required to submit/upload the following documents, along with the registration fee of NPR 1500:

  • Passport-size Photo
  • SEE/SLC mark sheet and certificate
  • 10+2 mark sheet and certificate
  • Valid citizenship certificate or passport (that validates your identity)
  • Bank voucher/ proof of payment

Payment Methods

  1. Bank Deposit: Visit any branch of Global IME Bank and fill out a special voucher marked “BCA Entrance Exam."
  2. Candidates can also make their payment through online services like Khalti, eSewa, and IPS, using the “BCA Entrance” service.

(Note: If you’re submitting the form late, you are charged double, i.e., NPR 3,000.)

Admit card details and Examination Center

Students can get their admit card details after their form has been verified.

TU University publishes the list of examination centers, typically by branch, which will be available on the admit card.

Guide to Prepare for BCA Entrance Exam 2025

1. Understanding the exam structure and pattern:

Understand the examination pattern, including the number of questions, areas of concern, and mark distribution.

Do not focus on just one subject, but balance your practice in all three areas of the examination.

2.  Acknowledge and address your weaknesses:

Do not ignore your weaknesses; rather, strengthen them by putting more effort into those subjects while you practice.

Working on your weaknesses increases your ability to solve questions more easily and efficiently.

3. Develop a Study Plan

Give one day for each subject.

You can practice weekly, timed mock tests to increase your idea of time pressure during the examination.

Solving questions from easy to difficult helps with time management.

Use study techniques like Heuristics, acronyms, and mnemonics to learn better.

4. Practice past questions

Use previous years’ papers and model questions to understand the structure better.

Give more attention to questions that are frequently repeated.

5. Strengthen major topics

  • Math: Practice Algebra, basic geometry, and probability
  • English: Focus on grammar, prepositions, synonyms/antonyms, and reading comprehension.
  • General Knowledge: Stay updated on World Affairs and general facts.

6Time Management:

Timing yourself in your practice sessions helps you build speed and accuracy.

Do not get stuck on difficult questions; skip through them and return later to save more time.

7. Use quality resources

If you are unsure about self-practicing, you can join prep classes or use online materials and platforms like YouTube to boost your confidence.
